ACG Wireless Network Guide – Faculty and Staff

Connect to acgopen

1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone, tablet, or computer.
2. Select “acgopen” from the list of available networks.
3. Choose “Connect”.
4. Once your device shows that it is connected, open a browser or another internet-based application to confirm access.

Connect to acgsecure

Before you start

You'll need your ACG account username and password – the same ones you use for Blackboard and portal.

You should be physically on campus so the secured network appears in your list of available networks.

STEP 1

Open the list of available wireless networks depending on the location:

• acgsecure (Agia Paraskevi Campus)
• dtcsecure (Downtown Campus)
• eastsecure (East Campus)

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Connections or Network & internet, then tap Wi-Fi.
3. Wait for the list of nearby networks to populate. Tap “acgsecure”.

STEP 2

Fill in the authentication panel

A configuration panel will open. Most fields default correctly, but two are worth double-checking: Identity and Anonymous identity. Match your entries to the reference below:

Accept the server certificate

Your device now contacts the college authentication server, and may display its certificate for you to review. This step exists to protect your credentials, you should never send your ACG password to an unknown server.

STEP 4

Verify you're connected

After a moment, the connection completes and appears with a "Connected" status. You're done. From now on, your device will find and reconnect to the secured network automatically.

If You Cannot Connect

If you are unable to connect to acgopen/acgsecure or cannot access the internet after connecting, please try the following:

Fix 1:

1. Turn Wi-Fi off, wait for 5 seconds and then turn it back on.
2. Select acgopen/acgsecure again and choose Forget this network or Remove network, if this option is available. Then reconnect.
3. Open a web browser and try to visit a website. Some devices may need the browser to open before internet access is available.
4. Restart your device and try again.
5. Move to another area of the campus and reconnect, as signal strength may vary by location.

Fix 2:

If you're still stuck, run through this list before contacting IT:

1. Airplane mode: toggle it on for 10 seconds and back off. This forces the Wi-Fi radio to reinitialize.
2. Password: confirm your credentials are current and your account isn't locked.
3. Date and time: make sure your device's date is set automatically. A clock that's badly out of sync will fail certificate validation.
4. Android version: very old Android versions (below 10) may struggle with newer certificate requirements. If your device is more than 5 years old, this may be the culprit.
5. Signal strength: if the network shows only one bar, walk to a stronger signal area before troubleshooting further. Weak signal will time out enterprise authentication.

STEP 1

• eastsecure (East Campus)

Click the Wireless icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the taskbar).

STEP 2

Find the Faculty/Staff SSID in the list and click connect.

• Tip: Check the box "Connect automatically" so your device will reconnect to this network whenever you're in range

STEP 3

When the credentials box appears, enter your ACG username and password, then click “OK”.

• Tip: Check the box "Use my Windows user account" for auto filling your credentials.

If a prompt asks "Continue connecting?":

• If you expect to find “acgsecure” in your current location, click “Connect”.
• Otherwise, do not connect — it may be a different network using the same name.

STEP 1

Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar (top-right of your screen) to view available networks.

STEP 2

Find the Faculty/Staff SSID in the list and click to connect.

1. After a few moments, a dialog will appear showing the authentication server, this is the ACG certificate, which you need to accept in order to proceed. Click Continue to trust the certificate. This check prevents your Mac from sending your username and password to an unknown server.

   

   • You may then be prompted to enter your computer's password.
      
   ⚠ Important: This is NOT your ACG password. This is your local Mac admin password. This step saves the certificate to your keychain so you won't be prompted again.

2. After a few moments, you will be prompted to enter your ACG credentials.

   

   Enter your ACG username, and your password. Click “OK”.

   Tip: Check the box "Remember this information" so your Mac reconnects automatically whenever you're in range.

Sometimes Mac users have trouble reconnecting because their Mac is holding on to old credentials or settings from a retired network. The following steps will completely clear out the old configuration so you can start fresh.

The exact menu names differ between macOS versions. Follow the path that matches your Mac.

Step 1: Remove the saved network

On macOS 13 Ventura and later (System Settings):

• Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and choose System Settings.
• Click Wi-Fi in the sidebar.
• Scroll down to Known Networks, find acgsecure, click the three-dot (⋯) icon next to it, and choose Forget This Network. Confirm when prompted.

On macOS 12 Monterey and earlier (System Preferences):

• Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and choose System Preferences.
• Open Network and select Wi-Fi on the left. If the settings are locked, click the padlock in the bottom-left and enter your Mac's administrator password.
• Click Advanced… in the lower-right corner.
• In the list of preferred networks, select acgsecure and click the minus (−) button to remove it.
• Click OK, then Apply.

Step 2: Clear saved credentials from Keychain

• Open Spotlight (magnifying glass in the top-right, or press ⌘ + Space) and search for Keychain Access. Open the app.
• In the Keychain search box, type acgsecure.
• If more than one result appears, click any entry in the list, then press ⌘ + A to select all of them. Right-click (or two-finger click) the selection and choose Delete Items.
• Clear the search and type the name of the authentication server used by ACG (for example, the server shown in the certificate prompt when connecting). Delete any matching entries the same way.

Step 3: Reconnect

• Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar (top-right) and toggle Wi-Fi off. Wait a few seconds, then toggle it back on.
• Select acgsecure from the network list.
• Enter your ACG username and password when prompted.
• When the certificate trust dialog appears, verify the server’s name matches the one you expect, then click Continue. If you see an Always Trust option, choose it — this prevents the prompt from returning on every reconnect. You will then be asked for your Mac's local administrator password to save the certificate to your keychain.

After a few seconds, your Mac should be connected.
