To ensure smooth and timely software installations in ACG computer labs, please review the following responsibilities and requirements.
What IT Provides
The Information Technology (IT) division of the Information Resources Management (IRM) department funds and manages institution-wide software. This includes campus-wide software, applications, and tools that support multiple academic and administrative units. All computer labs operate on a standard software installation, ensuring consistency, stability, and security across all locations.
What Instructors and Departments Must Provide
For specialized or non-standard software not covered by centrally managed IT resources, academic departments are responsible for:
- Purchasing all required licenses
- Securing funding before submitting the installation request
- Providing IT with all licensed installation resources (installers, keys, configuration files, etc.)
All the above resources must be complete and valid before the IT team can begin the installation.
Requirements for Software Approval
For the installation of specialized software in labs or classrooms, the following criteria must be met:
- Valid License: Proof of licensing must be included with the request.
- Support Availability: Technical support must be provided either by the vendor or by the course module leader/instructor.
- System Compatibility: The software must be compatible with ACG’s operating systems, hardware, and security standards.
- Single Version Policy: Only one version of each application may be installed campus-wide to maintain uniformity.
- Copy on File: IT must retain a complete copy of the software and all license documentation for auditing and maintenance.
Why These Steps Matter
Following the above guidelines ensures:
- Stable and secure software installations
- Consistency across labs and classrooms
- Minimized technical issues during course delivery
- Efficient use of IT resources and timely support
